Study: U.S. Media Overlooked Major Humanitarian Stories in 2006 - Yahoo! News

These two sayings seem appropriate to help understand our lack of concern for our fellow humans:

Martin Luther King, jr.:

We must rapidly begin the shift from a "thing-oriented" society to a "person-oriented" society. When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, materialism, and militarism are incapable of being conquered.

Mohandas K. Gandhi:

You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.
