Confederate Memorial Day
One of the first references to a U.S. Memorial Day was in 1867. A song was published, "Kneel Where Our Loves are Sleeping" by Nella L. Sweet. The song carried the dedication "To The Ladies of the South who are Decorating the Graves of the Confederate Dead."
Here in Texas, we still commemorate the dead from the Civil War on January 19th.
