Data Privacy Mind Maps of GDPR and CCPA

I've relied on mind maps for years to help me simplify and understand various systems. Brent Dreyer is a longtime co-worker and friend. He also works with mind maps.

Brent looked at the data privacy systems found in the 91 pages of GDPR regulations and the 24 pages of the California Consumer Privacy Act. The complexity of the GDPR is no secret, and it seems to be the kind of challenge that Brent welcomes. His mind maps are unique examples of detail and explicitness.

Send Brent a note, and he'll provide a PDF version for enhanced readability. Then be totally amazed.

GDPR and the One-year Anniversary

May 25, 2018 was the day GDPR became the EU's ruling force for data privacy. In celebration of the first year's anniversary, I'm referencing GDPRtoons.com, the creative work and humor of data marketing expert, Brent Dreyer with DataEM.

Brent is also contributing to the understanding of the 91 pages of GDPR regulations with his GDPR Mind Map.

The Human Right of Data Privacy

I may be wrong but...data privacy is no more a human right than my right to become invisible...or to be the UCT (User Centric Transparency) Man.

Humor and the GDPR

GDPR is the EU's General Data Protection Regulation. GDPRtoons.com shows how the GDPR provides six (6) grounds for processing personal data, referred to as Lawfulness of Processing:
  • Consent
  • Performance of a Contract
  • Compliance with a Legal Obligation
  • Protect the Vital Interests of the Individual
  • Carry Out a Task for Public Interest
  • Legitimate interests.
Processing shall be lawful only if and to the extent that at least one of the these applies.

GDPR is Just Around the Corner

From Barrons
GDPR Compliance: a data remember or delete for tech firms

"The solution has been simple: 70% of organizations say they are disposing of data in advance of GDPR, and 80% are reducing the amount of personal data they plan to keep, according to the IBM survey."

GDPR - Just 18 Days from Now

The basic principles of the General Data Privacy Regulation state that the collection of personal data shall be done lawfully, fairly and in a transparent manner. It must be for a specified, explicit and legitimate purpose. It must be adequate, relevant, limited, accurate, with 'storage limitation' and in a manner that ensures appropriate security of the personal data.

As GDPRtoons cleverly illustrated, a Controller and/or Processor has the responsibility of balancing six basic principles involving the collection of personal data, all while being able to demonstrate compliance.
